Explore the Bold Evolution of Art with Abstract Rebellion

Post-Impressionism is a dynamic force in art, transcending Impressionism's observational focus to delve into emotional resonance and psychological depth. Abstract Rebellion showcases a collection of giclée prints that honor the movement's innovators, who reimagined the world with vivid colors, bold brushstrokes, and abstract forms.

The Vanguard of Emotional Expression

Vincent van Gogh

"Starry Night" (1889)

  • Artist: Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter.
  • Artwork: "Starry Night" immerses viewers in a swirling, emotional landscape. The painting depicts the view from Van Gogh's asylum room window at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence just before sunrise. The sky swirls with stars, and the village below is moonlighted. The cypress trees and the church steeple stand out against the night sky. Van Gogh's inner turmoil is reflected in the expressive brushwork and revolutionary use of color. The painting is both a personal expression and a universal meditation on the mysteries of existence.

Paul Gauguin

"Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?" (1897-1898)

  • Artist: Paul Gauguin (1848–1903) was a French Post-Impressionist artist.
  • Artwork: This monumental painting is Gauguin's manifesto created while living on the Tahiti island. It represents a mystical and symbolic representation of life. The canvas has numerous human, animal, and allegorical figures across an island landscape. The sea and Tahiti's volcanic mountains are visible in the background. Gauguin considered this work to be his finest. The painting invites viewers to contemplate existential questions and the cyclical nature of existence.

Georges Seurat

"A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" (1884-1886)

  • Artist: Georges Seurat (1859–1891) was a French Post-Impressionist painter known for his pointillist technique.
  • Artwork: "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" illustrates Seurat's mastery of pointillism. The painting depicts people from different social classes strolling and relaxing in a park on the banks of the River Seine. Seurat meticulously applied small, distinct dots of color that blend into vibrant, detailed scenes when viewed from a distance. The composition captures the leisurely atmosphere of a Sunday afternoon. The island of La Grande Jatte, located near Paris, serves as the backdrop for this iconic work.
